Proteraesthesis

The video constructs a series of coincidences involving a set of twins who live across from the Towers of Bay Ridge, built under the Mitchell Lama Housing Program of 1978 and whose voting privileges are dislocated to neighborhoods up to 10 miles away. The narrative is consequently split between text, image, double and single as well as historical dislocations to render what Austrian mathematician, psychologist and philosopher Franz Brentano calls “Proteraesthesis,” or “original association.” However, the associations are lost as soon as they are conceptualized and thus rely solely on visual associations of geometrical (a)symmetry.
